Frequently Asked Questions
What is ADHD Coaching?
ADHD Coaching is a collaborative process designed to help minimize the effects of ADHD on your (or your child's) day-to-day life and help you find personalized solutions to address obstacles. My approach is not to fix perceived flaws or deficits but to help enhance and leverage the strengths, skills, and resources already possessed. Together we shift problems into goals and help you stay accountable to those goals as you take action to achieve the life you want.
What Can I Expect?
We'll start with a big picture exploration of what you want to achieve and your biggest concerns and priorities, then shift into actionable strategies with accountability. Parent coaching sessions combine parent training (recommended by The American Academy of Pediatrics) in combination with customized strategies and action plans. Adult life coaching clients will learn more about their unique brain wiring, strengths, and values, then choose what to focus on and accomplish each session. As your thinking partner, we will reflect, discover, and strategize and will collaborate on how to maximize the value in each session.
How Long Does it Take?
Coaching usually involves weekly or bi-weekly sessions and brief check-ins by email or text during the week to help with accountability toward your goals. As the client, you must engage willingly in the process and be ready to experiment with new strategies and behaviors. While change can begin immediately, it often takes time to experiment with new behaviors and see if they are helpful. The length of our partnership will vary depending on your goals and commitment but typically lasts between two and six months. During your FREE discovery call we can discuss what schedule will work best for you.
Does Insurance Cover It?
Coaching is often not covered by health insurance plans. However, there are other affordable ways to take advantage of coaching techniques, such as our discounted prepaid packages or group coaching programs (coming soon!) If you have an HSA (Health Savings Account) or FSA (Flexible Spending Account) you may be able to use that for coaching sessions. Please check with your account provider and I can provide a master invoice. ADHD Coaching is an investment that pays dividends for life! While affordability is no small matter, consider how an ADHD coach might be a financial investment down the line before ruling it out.
